ShopMeter is a Web-based, interactive analysis engine that generates customer selected charts and tables displaying Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) with immediate visual impact. ShopMeter places industry knowledge of vehicle service and repair statistics directly into the hands of subscribers. With ShopMeter, you can examine statistics and trends by vehicle Year/Make/Model (YMM), and they can see performance nationally, regionally, locally, and sorted by time.
Key Performance Indicators are called KPIs. KPIs are statistical facts or numerical values generated from transactional event records.
For the automotive industry, KPIs include:
- Total repair order (RO) counts
- Average RO dollars
- Average RO parts sales
- Average RO labor sales
- Other well-defined metric indicators.
The Importance of KPIs
"Would you tell me, please, which way I ought to go from here?" said Alice.
"That depends a good deal on where you want to get to," said the Cat.
"I don't much care where," said Alice.
"Then it doesn't matter which way you go," said the Cat.

Key performance indicators (KPIs) count. They are the cornerstone of understanding your business. Numbers from your shop, or the shops in your region and state, and comparisons with the national averages, let you see in an instant where you stand and whether you are beating or bucking the trend. This knowledge helps you target your business toward those jobs that produce the most value. KPIs presented by geographic region, or Year/Make/Model (YMM), or by month-to-month comparisons let you gauge your performance against the competition, and can give you the competitive edge over shops not watching KPIs.
Shop owners are absolutely certain where they want to get to – they want to increase shop volume, increase sales, maximize profit and serve the motoring public as effectively as they can. A clear understanding of shop metrics and automotive industry baseline numbers serves
as the foundation for creating the road map that can increase shop performance.
Benefits of Knowing KPIs
KPIs provide the benchmark metrics from which to gauge individual shop performance. By knowing where you stand compared to the local competition, and knowing your shop’s performance compared to national averages, you are armed with the information on trends in real-time and you can act on those numbers – whether positive or not so favorable – in a timely fashion.
In today’s economic conditions, shop owners have to know what is going on around them to stay competitive. Strong shops can see their potential for growth. Average shops can see where opportunities lie. And shops that are working on getting better can see what areas are giving them most trouble. KPIs can help answer those questions.
Powerful Charting and Analysis

In addition, you can filter the results by total number of repair orders, average repair order dollars, and you can segment the data into average parts or average labor dollar categories.
You can see values for a single instance, or increase the threshold to display the results for a minimum of 10, 50, or 100 repairs.
